The 19 homes at Laurel Court will all be High Performance residences.  The neighborhood has been developed around an urban green concept.

Landscaping Packages

The compact lots will be extensively landscaped and will have either patios or decks. Landscaping will include native fruit and berry trees and bushes. The sloped and gambrel roofs and the boulevard style sidewalks pay homage to the history of nearby Atlantic Heights neighborhood, with very modern, state of the art energy efficient plans and energy saving measures and systems.

High Performance and Energy Star Homes

Energy consumption within homes is measured by an index called the HERS score (Home Energy Rating System).  The lower the score, the better the energy efficiency. Many older homes have ratings of 120 up to as high as 150. In order to be Energy Code compliant, a new home must have a HERS rating of 100 or below. In order for a home to be Energy Star rated it requires a HERS score of 80 or below.

Chinburg and Energy Star Homes

Chinburg Builders has been building Energy Star rated homes since 2002. According to Energy Star, Chinburg is the largest builder of Energy Star homes within the Seacoast region.  In 2010, we pledged to build all Chinburg homes to Energy Star standards. In order to achieve the Energy Star rating we must hire a 3^rd party independent consultant to review the construction drawings and then to perform a blower door test at completion of the project.
